Postpartum Care in Newfoundland

Whether your baby is weeks old or years old, it is not too late to recover. Postpartum pelvic floor therapy helps you heal, rebuild strength, and feel at home in your body again.

01Common Concerns

Common concerns after birth.

Birth, whether vaginal or by C-section, places significant demands on the pelvic floor and core. Leaking, pain, heaviness, or a gap in the abdominal muscles are common after having a baby. They are also very treatable.

A separation of the abdominal muscles is common after pregnancy. Treatment focuses on breath, pressure management, and progressive core strengthening.

Bladder or bowel leakage after birth is common, and it is not something you have to live with. Strength, coordination, and habits can all be retrained.

Scar tissue from a C-section or tearing can be tender, tight, or numb, and can affect movement and intimacy. Scar tissue mobilization is a core part of postpartum care.

Returning to intimacy can be uncomfortable. Healing tissues, hormonal changes while breastfeeding, and pelvic floor tension can all play a part, and all can be addressed.

Getting back to running, lifting, or your favorite workout is a great goal. We build a progressive plan so your pelvic floor and core are ready for the load.

02How We Help

How pelvic floor therapy helps.

Your evaluation looks at your birth history, symptoms, and goals, along with your posture, strength, breath, and core. Treatment may include therapeutic exercise, scar tissue mobilization, manual therapy, bladder retraining, and a home program built to fit real life with a new baby. Telehealth and home visits are available when getting out of the house is hard.

In Their Words
I started with Thrive at 6 weeks postpartum with my second baby. I experienced a lot of uncomfort and loss of function with my first. Michaela came to my home, was kind, thorough and helped me heal and strengthen my pelvic floor within just a few weeks. I am pack to strength training, caring for my baby and family without any leakage, pain or discomfort. Reaching out to Michaela at Thrive was one of the best decisions I made for myself !
